Nationally-known author and public speaker, Tunette Powell grew up in San Antonio, with a father addicted to drugs. While her father wasn’t watching, Powell struggled in school with behavioral issues and was labeled at-risk, broken, and defeated. Powell published “The Other Woman” – a bold and emotional memoir about her father’s drug addiction. Powell is the Drug Free Communities Coordinator for the LiveWise Coalition.
Powell recently shared her story on Oprah’s Lifeclass for Daddyless Daughters and has headlined a host of conferences, including the 2013 Malcolm X Festival, the 2013 Urban League of Nebraska’s Real World Education Conference, and 2012 Future Educators Association Conference.
Her most prestigious public speaking moment came in front of a panel of Harvard professors when she won first place at the 2012 Interstate Oratory, North America’s oldest and most prominent public speaking competition.
